Neihu Day Trip | 內湖一日遊

When we usually think Neihu district in Taipei, we think of the tech companies and sprawling new buildings. However, you'll be surprised to know that there are a ton of fun things to do in Neihu as well...even though the transportation may not be that convenient.  Also, if you're into hiking, the mountains of Neihu will allow you to enjoy a fantastic view of Taipei. 

If you're into historical architecture and natural scenery like I am, follow along as I provide ideas for you to follow along on a day trip adventure. 

Let's begin!

Guo Zi Yi Memorial Hall 郭子儀紀念堂 is on a hill top not far from Wende 文德 MRT station. The building was made in 1917 and was declared a national heritage site in 1999. It was built for the first mayor of Neihu, Kuo Hua-jang 郭華讓.  The exterior is gorgeous and was created keeping the Baroque style of architecture in mind. 

Note that the building was restored before it was opened to the public. At the same time, this memorial hall also honors the legacy of Guo Zi Yi 郭子儀,  a general during the Tang Dynasty who was related to Kuo Hua-jang. As it is on a hill, you can also admire the view of the city while you're there. It is one of the most iconic heritage buildings in Neihu. 

After visiting the museum, you can also walk to Bihu Park 碧湖公園. The lakeside park was very pretty, and is surrounded by mountains and modern buildings.

There were also Chinese architectural elements such as a moon bridge, and a zigzag bridge, on the lake. I really liked walking around the park, taking photographs and enjoying the good view. Bihu Park was opened up more than 30 years and consists of various flora and fauna. There were also hiking trails that went up Neihu mountain. 

If you like visiting large parks with amazing scenery, you can also visit the famous Dahu Park 大湖公園. It has an iconic Moon bridge that many people like to visit for photography purposes.

When in Neihu, you can also check out the Old Neihu Village Public Hall 內湖庄役場會議室. This was built during the Japanese era in the 1930s and was built in Art Deco style. Some of the designs on the building symbolize different commonly used art designs from ancient civilization such as the Mayan or Egyptian Civilization. Nowadays, the hall has been transformed into an activity center.

If you have your own transportation, I would also recommend visiting Bishanyan Temple 碧山巖 which is up in the mountains of Neihu. This is a stunning, gorgeous temple which honors the legacy of several Chinese generals. The temple also offers a gorgeous view of the city. 

After visiting the place of worship, you can also check out the lovely, lilac Baishihu Bridge 白石湖吊橋, which is just across the temple.
