Taipei Confucius Temple 臺北孔廟

Taipei's Confucius Temple is located in the historic Dalondong 大龍峒 area near Yuanshan MRT Station 圓山捷運站 in Taipei.

It was originally built in 1879 during the Qing Dynasty but was demolished during the Japanese colonial era. It was rebuilt in 1930 and it modeled after the original Confucius temple in Shandong, China.

Students usually go there to pray before their university entrance exams. There are no statues present in the temple Instead, you see rows and rows of plaques with names of scholars written on it.

Every year, on September 28, traditional music with Chinese instruments such as the bamboo pipe flute are played as well as a traditional dance known as the Ba Yi dance 八佾舞 while wearing traditional clothing from the Song and Ming Dynasty, in honor of Confucius' birthday.

The temple consists of traditional architecture.

You can get off at Yuanshan Station Exit 1 and walk for 10-15 minutes along Jiuquan Street, cross the road and walk through a park and you'll get to your destination in no time. Make sure to visit the neighboring Baoan Temple 保安宮 as well.
