Explore Cishan Old Street | 旗山老街

This time, we're heading to southern Taiwan!

Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan. The city is known for its slower pace of life, compared to its counterpart in the north.

We'll be exploring Cishan Old Street which was built during the Japanese Colonial period.

Walking around, we see Baroque architectural style buildings built with stone and red bricks, which adds to its old world charm.

The street stretches out from Cishan Railway Station 旗山火車站, which is no longer in use. In Taiwan, the railway station has earned the reputation of being one of the "cutest train stations" in all of Taiwan because of its miniature size.

Cishan is also known for its bananas. In the old days, bananas used to be shipped from Cishan to all over the world!

There are a ton of delicacies in Cishan, most of them made with bananas as that's what the area is best known for.

Don't forget to try the famous banana ice cream in Cishan from 枝仔冰城, which is a traditional ice cream shop with more than 90 years of history!

Other than that there are other treats such as banana cake in the shape of a banana even banana milk tea!

There is a ton of things to do in Cishan.

You can walk around and climb up the stairs to Gushan Park 旗山鼓山公園 where you can enjoy the view of the city.

We can also continue walking further up to the Kaohsiung Qishan Confucious Temple 高雄旗山孔子廟, which is said to be the biggest Confucius temple in all of South east Asia.

The architecture inside is stunning with bright red traditional Chinese style architecture.

Unfortunately, parts of the temple were closed when I went there so I didn't get to enter and take pictures.

You can take the bus from Kaohsiung City and get off at Cishan bus station.
